⚠ This stores a secret
It is encrypted before it reaches the database and never appears in a response or a log. It is still worth knowing: issue a key with trading and withdrawal disabled, and revoke it at the venue if you ever stop using this.
The credential is checked against the venue before it is stored. If it turns out to allow trading or withdrawal, the connection is refused and nothing is saved.
How to create the key checked September 2026
Profile → API Management → Create API → System generated
  1. 1Sign in to Binance and open Profile → API Management.
  2. 2Choose Create API, then System generated, and name the key.
  3. 3Complete the security verification Binance asks for.
  4. 4Leave Enable Reading ticked. It is on by default and it is the only permission this journal needs for spot.
  5. 5Untick everything else, then save.
  6. 6Copy the key and the secret before leaving the page.

Worth knowing about Binance
  • Futures history is the exception, and it is Binance's limitation rather than ours: reading futures trades requires Enable Futures, which is not a read-only permission. If you trade futures and want them imported, you have to accept that, and you should restrict the key to a fixed IP address. If you would rather not, connect spot only — the journal will import what it can and say what is missing.
  • Binance disables API keys that go 30 days without a request. An active connection keeps itself alive.
  • You can delete this key at the exchange at any time. Doing so stops imports immediately and affects nothing else.
Exchanges move these settings without warning. If what you see does not match, Binance API management ↗ is the authority — and nothing here ever asks you to enable trading or withdrawal.
